6 Weight Loss Tips for Family and Food!

May 10th, 2008 by WL Ratings

Only one in the family on a diet? No problem!

If you’re the only one in your family trying to lose weight on NutriSystem, making this work is easier than you might think. Just by making these six easy changes, you can successfully integrate your NutriSystem® program into your family’s life and you’ll be surprised at the ripple effect it can have!

  1. Discuss your intentions. This is a great idea, whether your family consists of you and your spouse or you and a houseful of kids. Let everyone know what you’re doing and why. Explain to them that you want to lose weight and that you’re making some choices now that will help you stay healthier.
  2. Ask for support. After you’ve made your family aware of what you’re doing, do not hesitate to ask them for help if you need it. Let them chip in and help you make a salad for dinner. They can even help you pick out fruits and veggies!
  3. Do some reorganizing. This is an especially important step. You will want to keep any tempting foods out of your reach. If you are surrounded by people who enjoy snacks like potato chips or cookies, keeping those things completely out of the house is the most ideal option. But that can be difficult in a family. At least consider designating a cabinet just for other people’s foods. Make it an off-limits place for you. Then do the same kind of thing with the frozen or refrigerated items.
  4. Coordinate the meals. NutriSystem makes this really easy. If Friday is family pizza night, there is no need to even shift this tradition. Just serve everyone their favorite pizza, and you can enjoy your NutriSystem® pizza with your own individualized toppings, like sauteed mushrooms or sun-dried tomatoes. Whatever your family is having, chances are there is a NutriSystem equivalent you can have along with everyone elses including Sunday morning pancakes!
  5. Share the principles you’re learning. As you learn more ways to eat healthier, you can begin to share those ways with your family. Help them be more mindful of portion sizes, talk to them about eating meals and snacks spaced through the day, and let them know the importance of eating fruits and vegetables. Another thing that can help everyone is starting a family exercise program, whether it is a weekend bike ride or an evening walk.
  6. Share your progress. As you begin losing weight, make sure you let everyone around you know about your accomplishment. Be proud and share your happiness! That way, as you become a role model, your loved ones will be there as your biggest cheerleaders.

Is This How I Really Look?

Is This How I Really Look?

My weight loss moment of truth came when I was about to go into a store. I looked straight into the eyes of a very fat lady coming out. Poor lady! Yes, that poor lady was my reflection in the glass. How in the world had I let that happen? - olddress, NutriSystem member

My moment of truth came when looking at pictures from my son’s recent wedding and cringing from what I saw. - Hunny8, NutriSystem member

Last Christmas, I saw pictures of myself and my family. I looked at the fat guy in the photo and realized that I had not only gained back some of the weight I had lost, I gained it all back and then some. - Steverhud, NutriSystem member

In November 2007, my daughter and I went down to Albuquerque to visit my 96-year-old gram who may not be with us much longer. My sister took a pix of my daughter and when I opened it, I was aghast at how horrifically obese I am. - Iraesjoys, NutriSystem member

My moment of truth, when my daughter who is 25 was home from the service getting ready to leave for Iraq. I had a picture made with her and my son, who is 18, and both are physically fit like I used to be. On seeing me between these two great looking kids, I thought, these are my children, and they deserve to have me around to aggravate them for a long time. Besides, I figured my daughter had a lot more to worry about in Iraq than the health of her dad back home. - Mojo-62, NutriSystem member

I got the pictures back from my 50th birthday at the Grand Canyon and said, enough! - Pshrynk, NutriSystem member

I saw a picture of myself with my partner at a wedding. He looked wonderful, and I looked horrid. I immediately shut that photo out of my mind, because I could not believe I looked like that. It took me months to get up the confidence and courage to start researching diets and making the commitment to do something. - kncrvt, NutriSystem member

On the cruise ship they take pictures right and left knowing that you will at least look at them and most likely buy them for memorabilia,. I could not believe the woman in those pictures. I looked ten years older. I honestly did not recognize myself. - CharissWalker, NutriSystem member

Nutrisystem Success Story

March 25th, 2008 by WL Ratings

I am from South Louisiana and my heritage is Cajun, and anyone who knows anything about the Cajun people knows we love our food! Now of course, this NutriSystem food is far from actually being Cajun, but it is still so very good, and I can add my own spices and try different things with the food. Plus, now, after I am finished with a NutriSystem dinner, I am not only satisfied, I am genuinely full.

You know, the biggest response I get from people when I tell them I am on the NutriSystem program is, “So, that means you have to eat their food?” My response is always, “No, that means I GET to eat their food!”

In general, I’d say that anyone who thinks that losing weight is too big of a challenge hasn’t tried the NutriSystem program. It’s healthy, it’s convenient, and it’s easy. You eat really good food. What more is there to be concerned about? To anyone who needs to lose weight and is serious about it, you owe it to yourself to try the NutriSystem plan. If you’re serious about it, NutriSystem will work for you. If I can do it, anyone can!

To quote one of my favorite inspirational quotes, “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels“.

How Much Does Medifast Cost?

March 10th, 2008 by WL Ratings

Medifast food products cost about $10/day, $70/week or $275/month when taking advantage of our convenient Variety Packages purchase option. And since Medifast does not charge enrollment or membership fees — you’ll pay only for your food.

medifast-weight-keep-off.jpg

Most people find the cost of Medifast comparable to the amount they’re already spending on groceries and dining out. Did you know that the average adult spends nearly $16/day on food? Between the grocery store and fast food, we spend much more money on food than we realize — and we often don’t make the healthiest of choices. At $10/day, Medifast represents significant cost savings for many people. When you also consider the additional benefits inherent in every Medifast Meal (doctor-formulated, vitamin-fortified, portion-controlled), Medifast equates to an even greater value.

South Beach Diet Explained

February 18th, 2008 by WL Ratings

The South Beach Diet is truly a food lover’s diet. It’s about living well and loving what you eat. But it’s also practical, flexible, easy, and effective. The diet is divided into three Phases. The first Phase lasts two weeks and is designed to eliminate cravings and kick-start weight loss. The second Phase is intended to produce long-term, steady weight loss. You’ll stay in Phase 2 until you reach a healthy weight. Then you’ll move to Phase 3, the lifestyle Phase. This is how you’ll eat and live 365 days a year - and it’s the key to maintaining your new, healthy weight.

bistro-beef.jpg

Phase 1, the shortest Phase, lasts for just two weeks and is designed to eliminate cravings for sugar and refined starches - and to jump-start your weight loss. The purpose of Phase 1 is to stabilize blood sugar (which minimizes cravings), making it ideal for people who are prediabetic or diabetic, as well as for those who need to lose a lot of weight.

Phase 2 is the long-term weight-loss Phase of the plan. It’s also the perfect place to start for those people who have 10 pounds or less to lose, who don’t have problems with cravings, who don’t have excess belly fat, or who simply want to improve their health.

By now, you’ve adopted the South Beach Diet lifestyle, making smart food choices that fit the way you live. That’s what Phase 3 is all about, and it begins once you reach your healthy weight. In Phase 3, you’ll continue to follow the principles you learned in Phases 1 and 2, but because it’s the lifelong stage of the plan, it includes almost every kind of food and it allows for additional occasional indulgences. It is the key to maintaining a healthy weight for life.

“I have been on the NutriSystem weight loss program for over a year and have lost 111 pounds. I have learned portion control, healthy eating habits and the benefits of exercise, and feel better and happier than I have in years.” — An iVillager

“I tried the NutriSystem diet and lost 107 pounds in approximately one year. Unfortunately, I could have purchased a new car for what the program cost, and the car would have lasted longer than my new figure did. After I started eating regular foods the pounds came back.” — An iVillager
